Professor Marc-Jan Gubbels
Dr. Gubbels completed a BS and MS degree (1994) at Wageningen University and Research Centre. Here the first exposure to infectious disease occurred while working on plant viruses. For his PhD at the Veterinary School of Utrecht University his interest shifted to protozoan parasites, in particular tick-transmitted Theileria and Babesia parasites of cattle. Upon completion of his degree in 2000 he moved to the University of Georgia for a post-doc with Dr. Boris Striepen on Toxoplasma gondii. In 2005 he transitioned into an independent faculty position at Boston College and continued working onToxoplasma.
